Attended a 'hustings' tonight for the Group Leadership vacancy.
I know there's only been the one nomination - but, quite rightly, the wider Labour Party in Edinburgh still continued with an all-Member meeting event ... given the circumstances, was obviously more a 'question-and-answer' session!

Do you think they will get someone at the meeting to stand up against David Davis.
Interesting song making the rounds
"The Most Unlikely Civil Liberties Defender Of All"
by Billy Ruffian
I think that maybe I've been taking pills,
'cos David Davis is acting like John Stuart Mills,
And in taking on Brown, Dacre and Murdoch,
The establishment are in a difficult spot.
"I'm making out my political will,
By opposing the anti-terrorism bill,
But the government wish to rid us of Habeas Corpus,
So if you believe in freedom you'll have to support us."
The most unlikely civil liberties defender of all
What about Magna Carta? Did she die in vain?
"I'm standing in this by-election,
To protest against illegal detention,
Against Gordon Brown who should be sectioned,
To spend six weeks in the house of correction."
"You should have campaigned for National Health,
Or ban stealth taxes, redistribute wealth,
Reduce the price of bread on the shelf,
Or listen to your party and abolish yourself."
The most unlikely civil liberties
defender of all
What about Magna Carta? Did she die in vain?
"Canada can detain for just one day,
And it's two days for Germany and the USA,
Russia has five, Italy has four,
So why do we require 38 more?"
"There's no argument for it, mine's the argument against,
I want the voters to come down off the fence,
I've gambled my job and my political future,
Mr. Brown debate with me on any day that suits you."

"The government's case won't be put by The Cabinet,
Or the P.M. or his P.R. instead it's a journalist
Kelvin McKenzie hated throughout the land,
He hates Labour, he hates Hull, but he's still going to stand."
"The most offensive man in Britain is the best they can do,
And if Labour believe in it, then they should stand too,
But if they still have a moral or an ethic between them,
Then remove Gordon Brown and indict him for treason."

PLEASE - can we keep comments short(ish) and relevant to the post in question ... thank you ;-)
Aw come on. As for on-topic - I have won that one hands down. A group of Labourites (missed the sh) meeting for a nomination and one constituency missing a Labour nomination. Gies a break.
With regard to length, can't take the blame for that either. I wasn't the lyricist. If I had been 10 green bottlers would have been somewhere in there and it would have been shorter.
Nice song though, eh?
