American obsession continues ...

Amazing set of poll results for Obama out in America today - see opposite!

I do think something quite extraordinary is happening in The States at the moment ... if he keeps up the momentum tomorrow in New Hampshire, he must go into Super-Tuesday (5th February) as clear favourite to sweep the board?

... I wouldn't put money on John McCain being able to stop such a juggernaut (if it happens!) in November. The Republicans need to damage him now, preferably for them before 5th February - unfortunately, I rather suspect they know that :-(

OKAY - no more posts about America until the New Hampshire results are in ;-)

Hi Andrew, and Happy New Year.

I think that Barack is certainly doing well and I predict that he will win NH tonight. However, even with the momentum that this would give him, I would write off Hillary just yet. She has a massive machine and would only require a couple of wins in the bigger states to regain her own momentum.

And as for McCain, he could actually prove more of a challenge for Obama than most of the rest of the GOP field. He appeals to the same cross-party centre ground, is well respected and has massive foreign policy experience - something that Barack crucially lacks. McCain would hearten the Republican moderates who are put off by the religious right, but would still carry the right with him against a liberal candidate.

So interesting times ahead, and a very unpredictable race. On which note, I will predict Obama and McCain to win New Hampshire!

Don't disagree with your analysis ... I do just 'feel' there is something very, very seismic happening within US politics at the moment and it could easily lead to Obama gaining the White House in November.

Well, what do I know - I called Obama wrong in NH! The only comforting thing is so did everyone who gets paid a lot of money to do these things professionally!

Great race, wide open. Whoever can win SC for the Dems will be the frontrunner - looks too close to call just now.
