Off to sunny Sheffield ...

Off to sunny (hopefully) Sheffield this weekend on the 2.05pm train tomorrow - bit of a weekend escape for the family - and we're staying in a 'houseboat hotel' ... really, we are :-)

It will be a definite first - and I don't even own a waterproof laptop! - thus blogging may be somewhat light over the next few days ... but I'll report back later on whether we sink or swim?

... I suspect many Party colleagues will be contemplating such issues over the weekend :-(

You are too late. You missed the final of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup at Hillsborough last night. Sheffield FC (a non-League Team) defeated Worksop Town 2-0. But make the most of whatever remains.

Sorry I missed the final!

We're, nevertheless, looking forward to our visit to Sheffiled - I used to live in Stoke (Hanley, to be precise, from 1989-92) and visited Sheffield fairly frequently back then ... haven't been since 92, so expect that much has changed.

Thanks for commenting ...

I live a mile south of the Sheffield and Yorkshire border in Derbyshire - Sheffield FC moved in to become my local team, so they are now "Sheffield of Derbyshire"! I worked in Sheffield for 21 years and lived there for 3 of those. Then when I became an MP for this local Derbyshire area, I hardly ever visited Sheffield in an 18 year period. But now that I am retired, Ann and I visit regularly.

I once went to Stoke to see Sunderland get beat 2-0 and was in an out when I went to teach at a Summer School at Keele.

Weekend was a great success - thought Sheffield was much improved from when I was there last ... apart from the colour of its political-control obviously ;-)

I was in transit via Sheffield on Sunday, to and fro to the Sunderland v Arsenal game - as per my latest post. Glad you enjoyed your weekend.
